How to read the liquidation map

The horizontal axis is price. Each bar is a price band, and its height is the total position value of tracked whales that would be liquidated if the mark price reached that band.

Red bars sit below the current price: these are long positions. If price falls into them, Hyperliquid force-closes those longs, which means market selling that can push price lower still. Green bars above price are shorts, whose liquidation means forced buying.

The lines show the cumulative value from the current price outward, so you can read how much whale size is at risk within, say, a 5% move.

A tall cluster is not a price target. It only shows where forced orders would appear if price gets there. Whales can add margin, cut size or close at any time, and the map changes every minute.

Data and limits

Positions come from Hyperliquid’s public clearinghouseState for about 70 large wallets (the leaderboard plus wallets seen opening big trades). Liquidation prices are the ones Hyperliquid itself reports, not estimates from leverage.

This is a whale map, not the whole market: small accounts and wallets we do not track are missing, so totals are lower than the full open interest.

Hyperliquid liquidates on the mark price (built from several exchange prices), not on the last trade, so a wick on one exchange does not always trigger liquidations.

FAQ

What is a Hyperliquid liquidation map?

It is a chart of where open Hyperliquid positions would be force-closed. Because Hyperliquid positions are public on-chain, the liquidation prices here are read from real positions rather than estimated from typical leverage.

Is this liquidation map accurate?

The levels come straight from Hyperliquid for each tracked wallet and refresh about every minute. It covers large tracked wallets only, and positions can change between updates, so treat it as a snapshot rather than a full market picture.

What is the difference between a liquidation map and a liquidation heatmap?

A liquidation map shows the value at each price level right now. A heatmap adds time, coloring levels by how long and how strongly they built up. Both show where forced orders sit, neither predicts direction.

Why do liquidation clusters matter?

When price reaches a cluster, forced closes add market orders in the same direction as the move, which can speed it up (a liquidation cascade). Traders watch clusters as areas where volatility can jump.

Which price does Hyperliquid use to liquidate?

The mark price, which combines prices from several major exchanges with Hyperliquid’s own order book. A position is liquidated when its equity falls below the maintenance margin.
